Castlevania The Adventure - Masque of Retribution is a fangame that will allow you to enjoy the legendary Castlevania: The Adventure, released in 1989 for the Game Boy handheld console, as it has never seen before. The original game, while fun, had many limitations due to the console hardware itself. This remake removes all those limitations, offering a much more modern experience in line with the rest of the games from its developer, WarMachine Studios.

Classic two-button controls

The controls in Castlevania The Adventure - Masque of Retribution are very simple, as they are directly inspired by the controls of the original game. With the WASD keys, you can move Christopher Belmont (the main character), and use the J key to attack and the K key to jump. And that's it. To use the sub-weapons, which didn't exist in the original game but are in this remake, simply use the attack button (J) while pressing the W key. And, if you prefer, you can also play using a gamepad.

Frantic 2D action

In the original game, the action was a bit slow due to the Game Boy's own limitations. But Castlevania The Adventure - Masque of Retribution will allow you to enjoy a much more fluid experience, closer to that of more modern releases such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. However, not only will your character move faster, but enemies will also move much faster and will be more dangerous. Luckily, you'll have many upgrades for the original whip that, unlike in the old games, you won't lose when an enemy hurts you.

Epic bosses

One of the most fun parts of any Castlevania game is its bosses. And Castlevania The Adventure - Masque of Retribution has an absolutely spectacular cast. All the enemies you encounter are remastered versions of the originals, with new attack patterns to make things really difficult. Defeating these bosses will be a real challenge. Luckily, you'll usually find a checkpoint relatively close to each one. Thanks to this, although you may have to attempt a fight several times, you won't have to redo the entire level from the beginning.
